AT 92nd STREET Y KAUFMANN CONCERT HALL - December 5 "Italia" Concert to
Feature Violinist Aaron Rosand

The New York Virtuosi Chamber Symphony, under the direction of Kenneth
Klein, begins its 20th anniversary season on Wednesday, December 5th, 2001
at 8:00 p.m.  at the 92nd Street Y Kaufmann Concert Hall, 1395 Lexington
Ave.  in Manhattan.  The program titled "Italia" -- Five Centuries & Four
Seasons of Italian Masters marks the Virtuosi's debut at this prestigious
New York concert hall.

The evening's program, an overview of Italian composers from the 16th
through the early 20th centuries, features legendary violinist Aaron
Rosand as soloist in The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi, the brilliant
mezzo-soprano Julia Fischer in Penelope's Lament from Il Ritorno d'Ulisse
by Claudio Monteverdi, and French horn virtuoso L.  William Kuyper in
the rarely performed Concerto for Horn and String Orchestra by Francesco
Mercadante.  Opening the concert and rounding out the program, The New York
Virtuosi Chamber Symphony will perform Canzona for Strings by Giovanni
Gabrieli and the Third Suite from Ancient Aires and Dances by Ottorino
Respighi.

Maestro Kenneth Klein is a conductor of daring vision and great
versatility.  Among the prestigious orchestras he has led have been the
London Symphony, the London Philharmonic, the Philharmonia Orchestra in
Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Philharmonic in Royal Festival Hall, the
Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Orchestre Nationale de France, at
the Vienna Symphony, the Vienna Tonkuenstler Orchestra at the Vienna
Musikverein and the Moscow Philharmonic at Tchaikovsky Hall.  He has toured
with Moscow's celebrated Bolshoi Ballet, the Stuttgart Ballet and the New
York City Ballet.  His tenure as Music Director of the Guadalajara Symphony
and close association with Pablo Casals and the Casals Festival in Puerto
Rico has given him unique insight into the music of Latin America, whose

The New York Virtuosi Chamber Symphony presents world-class performances
of the chamber orchestra repertoire of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.
The group was founded in 1982 by its Music Director Kenneth Klein.  This
35-piece ensemble, composed of New York's finest players, has performed
at all the major halls in New York City, throughout the U.S. and Germany
and been praised by both critics and audiences for its innovative

Violinist Aaron Rosand represents an extraordinary legacy, in his having
studied with pupils of Ysaye (Leon Sametini) and of Leopold Auer (Efrem
Zimbalist).  He has collaborated with some of the greatest conductors of
our time, including Bernstein, Rostropovich, Maazel, Kubelik, Leinsdorf,
Reiner and Tennstedt.  He made his debut with the Chicago Symphony at the
age of ten and has appeared with most of the world's major orchestras and
performed on six continents throughout his long career.

According to Gramophone Magazine, Aaron Rosand has made "some of the
greatest recordings of this century." Recordings, which, according
to Strad Magazine "have become synonymous with immaculate technical
achievement, beautiful multi-colored tonal luster, artful phrasing,
stylistic elan and a probing musical intellect." Harold Schoenberg of the
New York Times lauded Aaron Rosand as "one of the great living exponents of
Romantic violin music." He currently holds the Starling Chair at the Curtis

Julia Fischer has received critical acclaim for her versatility, elegant
musicianship and striking stage personality in a variety of repertoire.
She has appeared with the American Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of St.
Luke's, St.  Cecilia Chorus and Orchestra, the National Chorale, the
Stamford Symphony and the Apollo Chorus and Orchestra of Chicago.

L.  William Kuyper, Assistant Principal Horn of the New York Philharmonic,
is active both in the United States and abroad as a soloist, clinician,
and recording artist.  He also appears regularly with the Philharmonic
Ensembles in their acclaimed chamber-music series at Merkin Concert Hall.
Mr.  Kuyper joined the Philharmonic in 1969 after memberships in both the
National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., and the United States
Marine Band.  While in the Marine Band, he had the distinction of
participating in the State funeral service of President John F.  Kennedy.
