I think he was born in France, though his antecedents were Swiss.  Anyway,
not only was he French-born but he worked in France.  That makes him was
even more French than,say, Voltaire, who was born in France but lived in
Switzerland during part of his heyday, and more French than John Calvin who
was born in France but made his name in Switzerland.  The French consider
Honneger French.
