There are a number of collections dealing specifically with the music
written in the prison city of Terezin. Koch International was doing
a major series on this music; & Romantic Robot had a fine double CD
collection of historical recordings... often by performers who themselves
were prisoners in Terezin.

The Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis (who been put in jail more times
than most of us have had hot feeds) wrote at least one symphony (i think
the first; but i'm not absolutely sure on this)while in internal exile for
his political stands; & continued writing (without performance, of course)
during USAmerican-backed junta regime of the late 60s/early 70s, even
though his music had been explicitly banned from performance & ownership of
Theodorakis's scores was declared a criminal offence. This is a remarkable
tribute to MT's presence as a serious political SOB rather than merely a
mildly annoying artiste (most of whom are only important enough to get
quietly deep sixed); & a German composer - name escapes me at present -
paid a backhanded tribute to this dubious honor by setting the decree lock,
stock & terror as a choral piece....

All the best,
