Although I enjoy excellent recorded sound quality as much as most folks,
it's the quality of the composition and interpretation/performance that
matters most to me. Also, I don't seem to be able to listen to a work
except as a "total package" - sound, performance, and composition. All
three aspects come to me at the same time. Sure, I can differentiate the
quality of each of the three factors, but ultimately, it's a combination
of the three which decides how much I enjoy the work or track.

Fantastic sound never distracts my attention from the quality of music
or performance; it just adds to my overall appreciation. I don't really
understand the list member who mentioned that when he listens to Mutter,
he does not hear the composer, only Mutter. When I listen to a recording
of hers, and I'm looking at a photograph of her as well, I don't even hear
the music. It must be love.
