Well, I'm allowing some Naxos into my collection.

I have been having the hardest time finding a good CD of Griffes
piano music. I got hooked on Griffes while learning his "Fountains of
Aqua Paola" in college. Years back I picked up a Delos CD with Carol
Rosenberger playing "Fountains" as part of a compilation of piano music
called "Nightmoods."

Nice album title huh? My elitist friends began to joke that next they would
find Telarc's "Fantasy Adventure Album" in my collection. (I quickly
tossed it out the window)

Well, staring me in the face at Border's, right below a picture of Donald
Satz and the caption, "If you see this man, report any suspicious activity
to the manager at once," was a brand new CD entitled, "The Complete Griffes
Piano Music, Vol 1." It includes the good stuff, including the Piano
Sonata, Three Tone Pics and the Roman Sketches.

Performance is by Michael Lewin, who does a fine job. (I guess Idil and
Jeno died of finger exhaustion.) The sound is up close and personal, but
not as harsh as some of Naxos' other recordings.

Definitely a welcome edition for me!
