I think there are Ives collections at Yale, and Dick Burns had contacts
there. I think he worked there for a while. He was an audio engineer
so I'm sure it was no problem for him to get copies of things or make
them himself. I heard them many years ago, so I can't remember much in
the way of this kind of detail. I can tell you that Dick was a wonderful
guy who taught me a great deal. If memory serves, he and Karl didn't
know each other, and that has always surprised me: they had such common
interests and the same passion for music. It was Dick who helped introduce
me to Elgar, one reason I played Elgar's Chanson de Nuit (on trombone)
for his memorial service. Helen Boatwright, about 85 at the time, sung
an Ives song--quite well, too.
