Internationally Renowned Pianist Alia Alhan in Recital at New York's
Liederkranz Club - February 26 Program Features Works by Haydn, Schumann,
Chopin, Debussy and Others

Internationally renowned pianist Alia Alhan will be in concert on Saturday,
February 26 - 8:00 PM at the Liederkranz Club, 6 East 87th Street in New
York.

She will be performing selections by Haydn, Schumann, Schubert, Chopin,
Debussy, Scriabin, Prokofiev and two composers from her native Kazakhstan,
Bakhtiyar Amanzhol and Adil Bestybaev.  She will be joined in these last
two selections by Kazakh folk instrumentalist Zhanna Kassenova.

Tickets for this concert are $20, with discounts for students and seniors.

Alia Alhan has performed in chamber music and solo recitals at the Almaty
State Conservatory, and was featured as a soloist with the Kazakh State
Philharmonic Orchestra.  She holds graduate and post-graduate degrees
from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, including studies with
Leonid Zhivov and Gennady Cherkasov.  Alia Alhan has traveled on
international cultural exchange tours to Italy, Philippines, Singapore,
Mali and Upper Volta.  Ms.  Alhan has performed both chamber music and
solo recitals at the Isaac Stern Auditorium and Weill Recital Hall at
Carnegie Hall, CAMI Hall, Bruno Walter Auditorium at the Lincoln Center
Library of Performing Arts and the Tolstoi Foundation.

The Liederkranz Club was founded 131 years ago.  Members have included
President Theodore Roosevelt.  Liederkranz Scholarship Award Winners
have gone on to careers with the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City
Opera, and other leading opera houses throughout the world.  Among their
scholarship winners are Renee Fleming, Gene Boucher, Justino Diaz, Tatyana
Troyanos, Maria Albanese, Batyah Godfrey and Dominic Cossa.  Guest artists
who have performed at the Liederkranz Club and with its Chorus include
Jenny Lind, Ferrucio Busoni, Victor Herbert, Lilli Lehmann, Helen Traubel,
Lauritz Melchior, and in recent years Martti Talvela and Lucine Amara.
