American Chamber Ensemble Presents Romantic Springtime Concert on March 25
at Long Island's Hofstra University

On Sunday, March 25, 2001, at 3 p.m., The Music Department of Hofstra
University will present the American Chamber Ensemble at the University's
Monroe Lecture Center Theater on California Avenue, Hempstead, New York.

This concert, Romantic Springtime, will celebrate the music of Herbert
Deutsch, composer and professor of music, upon his retirement after 40
years of dedication to his students and Hofstra University. His Romantic
Conversations for cello and piano will be presented, along with Woman
in Darkness, his renowned setting of poetry by Virginia Terris for voice,
clarinet, cello, percussion, piano and electronic keyboard. These
performances will celebrate the 2001 Festival of Long Island Composers.
Two of the great masterpieces of chamber music, Anton Dvorak's Trio "Dumky"
in e minor, op. 90 for violin, cello and piano and Gabriel Faure's
Quartet, Opus 15 in c minor for piano, violin, viola and cello, will also
be presented.

Performers for this concert will be the Directors of the American Chamber
Ensemble, pianist Blanche Abram and clarinetist Naomi Drucker, who will be
joined by ACE core members Eriko Sato, violin, Lois Martin, viola, Chris
Finckel, cello, Don Larsen, percussion, Marilyn Sherman Lehman, piano and
Deirdre Kingsbury, mezzo soprano.

The American Chamber Ensemble explores the great chamber music literature
for clarinet and piano in combination with strings, woodwinds and voice
and presents performances featuring world-class artists. ACE consists
of the finest freelance musicians in the New York area and has been cited
by critics for their superb presentations of chamber masterworks. Their
latest CD on Elysium - American Clarinet Treasures - features core members
of ACE performing works by George Kleinsinger, Virgil Thomson, Daniel
Gregory Mason, Elliott Carter, Douglas Moore and Gary Schocker, with Guest
Artist Stanley Drucker

ACE concerts are supported by the Hofstra Music Department, and assisted
with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state
agency, and private contributions.

Tickets for the March 25 concert are $10 general admission, with discounts
for students and seniors, and can be ordered through the Hofstra University
Box Office at 516-463-6644.
