Deryk Barker relates an hilarious Shostakovich-Rostropovich drinking story.
Reminds me of one told by Maxim Shostakovich, the composer's son.
Shostakovich and a buddy were drinking and three sheets well past, when
Shostakovich bragged that he could produce a fully-orchestrated piece
at least three minutes long in under an hour. The buddy took the bet,
Shostakovich got out the scoring paper and began to work, and the buddy
kept the composer's glass full (vodka). The result was the Tahiti Trot,
Shosty's arrangement of Youmans's "Tea for Two." Shostakovich completed
the work in 45 minutes and several shots.
