I guess that Rihm is actually best known for his String Quartetts. I
can't judge actually, but I thought them fairy equal to many other SQ's:
Cage, Dutilleux, Kagel. I thought I heard a beautiful and good recording
of Bruno Maderna SQ's with the Arditti Quartett. But it showed up to
be the Arditti recording of the Cages SQs. I got it send to me in a
package together with Oskar Frieds, might I say, rather surprising
Mahler.
