It seems to me that even the most characteristic of his orchestral works,
"Schelomo", which used to be in every 'cellist's active repertoire, turns
up rarely....I haven't conducted it since 1980 [Bloch centennial concert
with Stephen Kates, who played it superbly].

My personal sense is that it might well be his best major work, although
wouldn't the "Sacred Service" run a close second or tie with it?
