The METIER record label has had much praise recently for its recordings
of radically individual composers such as MICHAEL FINNISSY and CHRISTOPHER
FOX, and for bring to the record-buying public's attention the musical
talents of young artists like Kate Romano, Ian Pace, Nicholas Unwin and
Steven Neaugarten, to name but a few.

To add to the list, METIER has made the first commercial recording of music
by Ric Graebner, another of the UK's highly individual voices.

Until recently, Graebner was a lecturer in the music department of
Southampton University, a post whose responsibilities limited the available
time for composition, let alone self promotion. With a background in
computer assisted composition and sound synthesis gained during visiting
Fellowships at Princeton University in the US, Graebner was able to
maximise his use of the available time by writing for the electronic medium
where the time-consuming business of organising performers to get his music
heard was avoided.

Recognising the high quality of Graebner's music, METIER decided to release
a CD representing a cross section of his music for the electronic medium.
The album "Venus in Landscape" (MSV CD92019) brings together four pieces
spanning only five years of activity. But the range of styles, the tightly
wrought structures, the references to the acoustic world of music all make
this the work of a composer that needs hearing at last.

Now in retirement from the academic world, Graebner is concentrating full
time on composition in all genres. For more details on his music, please
contact me by e-mail or write to him directly c/o the address below and all
post will be forwarded.
