Anyone Googling on a Vainberg-Shostakovich connection would probably
find the following website, the content of which is an interesting
article written by the late Ian MacDonald. An enticing snippet:

"The Seventh Symphony is a fascinating instance of Vainberg and
Shostakovich treading so closely in each other's footsteps that
it is hard to distinguish who is following whom."

Back up one level for more on Shostakovich and "Music under Soviet Rule".
