In Times of Ghosts and War

Tan Dun         C-A-G-E Improvisation in Memory of John Cage
Solo pipa, This work explores the myriad possibilities for the notes C, A,
G, and E dedicated to the composer's mentor and friend, the late John Cage.

Shostakovich    String Quartet No. 8 in C minor
The five movement work, written in 1960, was dedicated to the victims of war
and fascism.

Tan Dun  Ghost Opera
String quartet and pipa (Chinese plucked lute) with water, metal, stone and
paper. This dramatic work is inspired by shamanistic 'ghost operas' of
ancient Chinese origin.
