Director of Percussion

The Cornell University Department of Music announces an opening at the
rank of Lecturer, full-time, starting July 1, 2007.  The appointment,
an endowed, non-tenure-track position (with benefits), will be for a
term of three years, with renewal dependent upon performance, and with
the possibility of promotion in the sixth year.

The successful candidate will serve as musical and administrative director
of the department's percussion ensembles, coach the departmental concert
ensembles' percussion sections, offer additional group or private
instruction as time permits, and participate in public performances.

Qualifications: demonstrated ability to teach, conduct, and administer
ensembles and small groups, as shown by experience and education.  Interest
and expertise in a variety of percussion traditions (e.g., non-Western,
vernacular, classical, and jazz).  Ability to work cooperatively and
interactively within the department to achieve mutual musical and
educational goals.

curriculum vitae, a statement of professional goals and teaching philosophy,
and three letters of recommendation.  Please do not send additional
recordings or other work samples until and unless requested to do so.
