I was listening to the slow movement of Schubert's Piano Sonata #20 and
thought how much it anticipated Mahler. Later that day, a TV documentary
used a military band arrangement of the slow movement of the 2nd piano trio
and again, the Mahler connection came. I've had the same thought about the
slow movement of the so-called 10th symphony. Am I reading too much into
this or have others had the same feeling?

Incidentally, I notice on the Czech CD site Dave recommended - and a
blissful place it is - they claim Mahler as a Czech composer. Seems fair.
