John Adams: A Flowering Tree

Stiftung Berliner Philharmoniker
Herbert-von-Karajan-Str. 1

A girl with a magical gift, a noble prince and a great love which is almost
shattered upon the thoughtlessness, ignorance and jealousy of others - this
stuff, based on an old south Indian folktale, inspired the American composer
John Adams for his newest work A Flowering Tree. Just as in Mozart's The
Magic Flute, which served as Adams' model, this piece revolves around a
deeply human theme: the realisation of one's own moral responsibility.

Pamela Rosenberg, the Managing Director of the Berliner Philharmoniker, met
the composer on the occasion of the Vienna premiere and spoke with him about
the spiritual aspects of the subject and its musical setting, as well as
about Mozart as an example => http://tinyurl.com/y47xow.
