Dan Locklair's Dubose Heyward Triptych To Receive World Premiere by
The Carolina Chamber Chorale at Charleston's Piccolo Spoleto Festival -
Performances on June 2, 3 and 6

The Dubose Heyward Triptych, a new choral work by American Composer Dan
Locklair will receive its World Premiere performances by The Carolina
Chamber Chorale on Saturday, June 2, Sunday June 3 and Wednesday June 6 as
part of the 2001 Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina.
All three performances will be at 8 PM at the New Tabernacle Fourth
Baptist, corner of Charlotte and Elizabeth Street in Charleston.

The Triptych is an a cappella setting of three poems by Dubose Heyward, the
Charleston poet best known for his libretto for George Gershwin's Porgy and
Bess.

Works by Anthony Davis and Ronald Perera will also be presented on this
program.

The music of internationally recognized composer Dan Locklair is influenced
by a wide variety of traditions, ranging from Medieval to modern music.
The works of Benjamin Britten and Aaron Copland have had a significant
impact on his writing.  His music has been performed throughout Europe and
North America by many major orchestras, choral groups, chamber ensembles
and soloists.  Several of these works have received major awards, including
the 1989 Barlow International Competition Award for changing perceptions
& Epitaph and the 1996 American Guild of Organists Composer of the Year
Award.  He is currently Professor of Music and Composer -in-Residence at
Winston-Salem's Wake Forest University.  Dan Locklair's website is located

The Carolina Chamber Chorale, led by their founder and Music Director and
Conductor Timothy Koch, is a professional ensemble, founded in 1999 and
based in Charleston, South Carolina, with an international roster of 26
world-class singers chosen from the Carolinas and throughout North America

The Piccolo Spoleto Festival, the official outreach program of Spoleto
Festival USA, was founded in 1979 and is produced and directed by the
