Ian Crisp responds to my comments:

>>Dictionaries have definitions of music.

>And you believe everything you read? Anyways, I wouldn't be surprised
>to find two mutually incompatible dictionary definitions.

I believe what makes sense to me. If dictionary definitions of music
include ones which are mutually incompatible, what does that tell you?

>>Schools provide definitions of music.
>
>Probably far too many of them. And since when did schools provide
>the last word on any subject?

Since Ian and others favor an exact definition, where do they locate it?

>>And with all that, any individual can and may possess any definition

>Exactly. A recipe for for chaos and confusion.

That's the way it is now - where's the chaos and confusion? Who's confused?
I'm not, Dave isn't, David Stewart isn't, and Ian isn't. I keep reading
about this chaos but see no signs of it.

>>I think it all works out very well.
>
>And this is the best of all possible worlds, no doubt.

I think it is the best by far.

>And what it comes down to, Don, is simple. Some of us enjoy kicking
>these ideas around. Some of us don't. It's a big enough world, isn't it?

You bet it is. I like kicking ideas around also. But, how long I'm
willing to engage in that process depends upon my interest in the subject
and my perception of the merit of competing ideas.
