One of the more memorable lieder performances I've heard in recent years
was at an Indiana University faculty recital about two years ago, with
Alan Bennett joining Leonard Hokanson in the Schubert "Schwanengesang."
Bennett's voice was light, focused and very beautiful, and I recall him
being very persuasive both as a musician and an interpreter of text.
Hokanson's playing was an absolute marvel of color and unexpected detail.
I recommend both artists highly, either separately or together.
DPHorn, who likes his Schubert very well-done.
