FYI

Walter Hendl had a remarkable career. He was a student of Reiner. For
many years he was conductor of the Dallas Symphony, also assistant with
the Chicago Symphony and New York Philharmonic; Director of the Ravinia
Festival, Eastman School of Music, etc. He was also associated with
organizations like Young People's Records.

Walter Hendl, retired Erie Philharmonic conductor, dies

Walter Hendl, a retired conductor of the Erie Philharmonic, died
Tuesday at his home in Harborcreek Township. He turned 90 in
January and had been under home hospice care.

Hendl conducted the Erie Philharmonic from 1976 to 1990. He
remained in Erie throughout his retirement, and he occasionally
made guest appearances at the Chautauqua Institution.

Hendl died Tuesday afternoon, Erie County Deputy County Coroner
Dennis Suscheck said today. Suscheck said he took a phone call
Tuesday from a hospice nurse at Hendl's residence who said Hendl
   had died there.

The nurse said Hendl died peacefully, Suscheck said.
