And, of course, they are one and the same.  George Eliot was the pen name
taken by Mary Ann Evans.

And getting back to music.  Does anyone know who wrote the score for the
1937 film version of *The Mill on the Floss*? Could it have been one of
Britten's? (How would that be for coming around full circle on this
thread?)
