Coincidentally, I was delighted to read just last night in Michael
Steinberg's book The Symphony that it was our own Joel Lazar who was the
first to conduct the early version of Sym 1 with the Blumine movement, at
Harvard University in 1969.  Before that people had just performed the
later version with Blumine inserted, in a kind of screwy hybridization.
Yay, Joel!
