The recording of the two orchestral suites by Charles Ives reviewed
recently by Steve Schwartz (Decca [London] 443 776-2; with the Cleveland
Orchestra/Chritoph von Dohnanyi) includes granitic performances of both
Sun-Treader & Men & Mountains (plus Ruth Seeger's Andante for strings)...
my problems with Dohnanyi's vision with Ives doesn't apply to these support
tracks, all of which work superbly.  It would be nice if the MTT integrale
of Ruggles slender ouevre were to be reissued; or - failing that - Naxos's
American Composers set would tape a new version....
