If this "top list" business is good enough for Classic CD, it's good enough
for me also:

1. Brendel
2. Pollini
3. Argerich
4. P.Serkin
5. Uchida
6. Pletnev
7. Perahia
8. Jarrett
9. Bilson
10. Levin
11. Kovacevich
12. McGregor
13. Zimerman
14. Ax
15. Aldwell
16. Barenboim
17. Staier
18. Kocsis
19. Demidenko
20. R. Sherman

Being a list of active pianists, this leaves out some of my favorite
pianists who I'd like to plug: Gilels, Moravec, Kraus, Richter,
Horszowski, and Gould.

There are three omissions to comment on. I left Kissin and Volodos off the
list because their recorded repertoire is not up my alley. Also, Tureck is
not on the list: she's active to a degree but I thought she's on the cusp.

Of the 20 I listed, McGregor is the one to watch in the future. I think
she has all the ingredients to be one of the two or three best. I've been
listening much to her Art of Fugue and feeling that it's now the absolute
best piano version I know. It's an amazing performance.
