Around here, in Strauss Country, the Alpensymphonie is held in pretty high
esteem. As Bernard Chasan claims, it does have power--and in my opinion
is superbly orchestrated. Anyway, I'm very comfortable with it, much more
comfortable than with, say, the Domestika. For my money, though, Struass
has a firmer grip, more elegant way, with opera than he does with
instrumental music.
