I will admit that I have a soft spot for 'Hugh the Drover'.  The plot is
a bit silly for our modern sensibilities, but at least it's not a silly
as 'Gilda in a Bag'.  (Credit for that alternate title for 'Rigoletto' goes
to another Lister who prefers anonymity.) The music is rather more in the
popular vein than the symphonies.  RVW was no fool; he knew that people in
the theatre want hummable melodies and understandable words.
