William Hong reports the likely demise of yet another public radio station
who wishes to satisfy the apparently insatiable appetite of the Nice
People who listen to Nice People's Radio for YET MORE public radio chit
chat. Any day now I expect a program entitled, "Gems from the folks at
the NPR watercooler".

In my humble opinion (wishful thinking?) I think that the consultants
are wrong, and that soon the competitive availability of news and opinion
from a multitude of sources will result in a big loss of revenue. When
consultants have to take jobs as substitute teachers or carpet installers
at Home Depot, when public broadcasting administrators have to trade
their BMWs for used Yugos and send their kids to public school, that
will be cause for celebration by us Demographic Dinosaurs (William's
felicitous phrase.)

Incidentally I just got back from a visit with my daughter in Richmond,
Virginia. Classical music for now at least, is thriving on the local
NPR outlet.

Perhaps that is where the Dinosaurs should make their last stand. How
do you say "Twilight of the Dinosaurs" in German?
