Chamber Music of Judith Shatin Performed on Tour by Borup/Ernst Duo in
Utah and Colorado on April 12, 15 and 21

Two of Judith Shatin's chamber works, Tower of the Eight Winds and Icarus
will be performed on tour by Hasse Borup, violin and Mary Kathleen Ernst,
piano on the following dates:

Sunday, April 12 - 7:00 PM - Libby Gardner Hall on the campus of
University of Utah (http://www.music.utah.edu/).

Wednesday, April 15 - 7:30 PM - University Center for the Arts
at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, Colorado
(http://events.colostate.edu/event_view.asp?ID=3D7&EID=3D25063)

Tuesday, April 21 - 7:00 PM - Roshong Hall of Ft. Lewis College in
Durango, Colorado (http://explore.fortlewis.edu/).

This program, called Mythic Dramas of Judith Shatin, will feature Tower
of the Eight Winds and Icarus. Both of these dramatic pieces offer
journeys inspired by mythic topics: Icarus and the Greek gods of the
winds. The composer notes that the myth of Icarus seems an apt metaphor
for the creative process: the attempt to transcend, and the riskiness
of the endeavor. The story of the escape of Daedalus, noted for his
wonderful sculptures, together with his son Icarus is a compelling one
that has inspired many artists to attempt their own interpretive flights.
Tower of the Eight Winds, named for the Tower of the Winds, still standing
below the Acropolis in the ancient Roman agora in Athens, soars windward,
reflecting the gods of the winds depicted in friezes at the tower's top.
At the time of its premiere the Washington Post said: '...Judith Shatin's
"Tower of the Eight Winds," ... stood out for its acuity and engaging
vivacity....'

Other works on the programs will be W.A. Mozart's Sonata K.454 and
Franck's Sonata in D Minor.
