And yet Brendel's Vox recordings of the Sonatas were far from his best
work.  Even Brendel himself disdained them, saying that the recording
engineers insisted on restricting the dynamic range so much that he was
severely limited in his ability to express what he wanted.

Most disappointing is his passionless Appassionata, an observation I
recall Don having made in an earlier review, and with which I concur.
