Announcing The New York City International Tango Competition For
Professional Instrumentalists and Singers - May 10-14 at The Consulate
General of Argentina in New York

New York, NY - Details have been announced for the New York City
International Tango Competition for professional instrumentalists and
singers.  The competition will be held from May 10-14, 2004, at the
auditorium of the Consulate General of Argentina, 12 West 56th Street
in Manhattan.

Presented by Chamber Players International & Argentine American Society
and hosted by The Consulate General of Argentina in New York, the
Competition Grand Prize is being sponsored by American Airlines and
Borello Travel.  The purpose of the Competition is to play a meaningful
role in the discovery and support of new talents exploring and preserving
the art of Tango.

Grand Prize for the competition is hotel and round trip tickets to
Argentina and performances in Buenos Aires famous Tango venues as well
as performances in New York City.  Additional special prizes will be
awarded.

The Competition, which is open to all, regardless of nationality, age,
or sex, is open to professional instrumentalists and singers performing
as soloists, duos, trios, quartets and quintets, in any instrumental
combination.  Competitors must perform live 20 minutes of Tangos, which
must include at least two traditional pieces from such composers as
Discepolo, Firpo, Gardel, Piazzolla, Pugliese, Matos, Salgan, Troilo,
Villoldo, etc.  or Tangos composed by other composers such as Stravinsky,
Cage, Nazareth, etc.  For more information about these composers and

to new compositions in this style.

The deadline for the receipt of Competition entries is March 15, 2004.
Entries must include entry form, biographical material and a sample tape,
CD or video of performance of the ensemble - 30 minutes maximum which
must include at least two Tangos, and a non-refundable $50 US processing
fee (made payable to Chamber Players International) and must be sent to
Mirian Conti, 123-14 85th Avenue, Kew Gardens, NY, 11415 - USA.

Only 25 ensembles will be selected to participate at the Auditorium of
the Consulate General of Argentina in New York in the Semifinals (May
10, 11,12) and 10 ensembles will be selected to participate in the Finals
(May 13, 14).  Please note: Invited participants will be responsible for
their own transportation to and accommodations in New York.
