Are you really being a spoil sport? Pointing out that this isn't a new
discovery (which was already made clear in Daniel's post -- perhaps in
the 1870s or early 1880s it was a new discovery) doesn't make it any less
interesting to me.  How many people in this list knew that the c-d-f-e
motif occurs in Mozart's first symphony? Did you know it a few months ago
when the c-d-f-e motif was a hot topic on the list?

Isn't it interesting that the motif appears in Mozart's first and last
symphonies (even if Mozart didn't know that the Jupiter would be his last)?
I know of another interesting instance where a composer used the same theme
(not the c-d-f-e motif) in his first and last symphonies.  This composer's
first symphony is much better known than Mozart's first symphony, so this
should be *very* well known.  Alright, does anyone know who it is (or care
:-)?
