I have to back those who say that professional musicians don't (on the
whole) spend much time listening to recordings.  My experience is that it's
obsessive amateurs and non-musicians (such as myself and a good many others
on this list) who not only buy most recordings but also spend longest
listening to them.  As with any such generalisation, there will be many
individual exceptions.
