If you're in the Washington DC area, stop by the National Gallery
of Art's east building to hear 16 MIDI-fied grand pianos, several
mechanically-operated xylophones, drums, gongs, fans, and of course the
siren play a 12-minute portion of George Antheil's "ballet mecanique"
every weekday at 1 pm and 4 pm and weekends at 1 pm. This is part of
the National Gallery's exhibit on the Dada movement. I was there today
for the first performance - the sound is muddy when you're up close but
I heard someone say it sounds better from the terrace overlooking the
area.
