I, a bona fide Waltonian for more years than I care to imagine, prefer most
of all Andre Previn's recording with Benjamin Luxon.

You just might want to check out the concertos, starting with the viola and
violin.  For those I prefer Previn again, with Kennedy (he used his first
name then) playing both.
