Ramblings:

If any company were to re-release master tapes on SACD, I'd like it to be
Sony's Columbia, starting with the rest of Walter's Brahm's symphonies.
Walter's Mahler too.

As a nascent vinylphile, Columbia pressings, (the "two-eye" to the
present), are the absolute worst, a blanket statement I'll stand behind.
(Decent vinyl by Philips, DG, EMI, and Decca run *circles* around *any*
digital format.)

With regard to Spano, he's a gong-hater--like the rest of the current crop
of conductors all from the "sensible" school.  Yawn.

Having started listening around '76, I've not heard many of the major
talent from the '50's to the '70's--Bohm, Walter, Szell, early Karajan--there
is a generation of listeners who will eventually discover these artists;
remasterings and new formats is one way of grabbing a newbie's attention.
