I would like to recommend three fine lesser-known mid 19th Century piano
concertos:-

(1) No 4 in F minor by William Sterndale Bennett (1816-1875), much admired
by his friend Mendelssohn, who conducted the first performance at Leipzig
in 1839.  It is available On a Unicorn-Kanchana CD, With Malcolm Binns as
soloist, who also plays 4 of Bennett's other concertos on 2 Lyrita CDs.

(2) & (3) No 1 in E Major & No 2 in F Major by Anton Rubinstein
(1829-1894), a Russian-born pianist-composer who rivalled Liszt in his
younger days and who founded the St Petersburg Conservatory in 1862 where
Tchaikovsky was his best known pupil.His German academic training was
resented by the largely self-taught "Mighty Five" group of Russian
nationalist composers whom he in turn regarded as a bunch of amateurs.

These concertos are available on a Marco Polo CD, played by Joseph
Banowetz.
