I don't usually pass on the myriad musical jokes that appear in my mailbox,
but Tim's post reminds me of a recent one that's too a propos not to
include (OK, OK, so it's more about tuning than vibrato -- maybe):

- Q: What's a minor second?
- A: Two oboes playing in unison.

-Q: What's a major second?
- A: Two baroque oboes playing in unision.
