If it's unabashed melody you want, listen to Del Tredici's Final
Alice and, for that matter, his other Alice pieces.  And Edgar
Meyer's Violin Concerto. You might also seek out Michael Kamen's
music for the film Mr. Holland's Opus.  The symphony based on this,
recorded by Slatkin, does not appear to be currently available, but
the soundtrack is.
