I don't go out of my way to listen to it, but can accept it as a matter of
course as part of a composition with acoustic instruments or human voices.
If you want to read an informative piece about its development, look for
Kyle Gann's book, American Music in the Twentieth Century.  He's got about
a 50 page survey.
