I have Hartmann's first two string quartets on CPO, and I'm ready to get
down to serious business concerning his symphonies. These are the
recordings I am aware of:

Koch/Schwann - symphony no. 2 - Rickenbacher.
Wergo - all eight - various composers.
Berlin - nos. 5,6,and 8 - Herbig/Kegel.

In addition, Telarc is releasing Botstein conducting the 1st and 6th
symphony. A list member mentioned an on-going series on EMI conducted
by Metzmacher but I can't find any notice of its existence in the US.

So, given the above, what route should I take? It really steams me that
a few years ago I could have bought the Wergo series at a local store in
Albuquerque for less than $20; I assume the wrong price tag was put on the
box.
