As a performer, I love to have people come backstage. After all they paid
my salary for the evening, and if they want to meet me, I am all for it.I
personally do not think that it is tacky to go back stage if you do it with
taste and decorum. Simply ask the stage manager if the artist is willing
to receive guests after the performance. If the artist says yes, then you
are fine. If no, you have done no harm in asking. the one time I met
Pinchas Zuckerman he behaved abominably. On the other hand, Gil Shaham
gave me his address and phone number in New York. (Which I have never been
brave enough to use BTW!) In a word it is all up to the artist and the mood
he or she is in after the gig!
