I'm not sure what happened with the Delos series.  I do remember how
several critics were upset that they released only a portion of one of
the Symphonies...they had a little bit of time left and decided it was
better to do something versus nothing.

As for it being a disgrace...for me, it is very sad indeed.  I consider
all of the wonderful music that remains unrecorded, especially that
written by Americans.  It isn't even a question of it being "modern." I
think of the wonderful music of composers like Sowerby...only one of his
five symphonies has been recorded.  As far as I know, his 5th Symphony
was never performed.  Similarly, no recordings of the Symphonies of EB
Hill, plus his 4th Symphony was never performed.  There is unrecorded
orchestral works by Roy Harris, Walter Piston, Benjamin Lees, William
Schuman, Aaron Copland (yes, even Copland...the original version of the
Symphonic Ode), Paul Creston, Howard Hanson, Peter Mennin, Morton Gould,
Randall Thompson, Vincent Persichetti..and those a just a few of the
better known names.

I think also of the wonderful, mostly unrecorded music of people like
Wayne Barlow, Seth Bingham, George Frederick MacKay, Bernard Rogers,
Farwell, Whithorne, Clapp, Canning, Nelson, Rorem, Ray Luke, Talma,
Hicks, Grantham, etc.

And then I consider what is being recorded...fortunately Naxos and Albany
are doing their best to fill in some major gaps, but then this is just
the tip of iceberg...but unfortunately the ice is melting with the costs
of recording being so expensive that these works will likely remain
unrecorded...even if one could find the scores and parts and find the
copyright owners, etc.

And for me, just as frustrating, when you can find a broadcast performance
of some of these things, the unions won't let you issue them.
