Perhaps moreso than any other composer Mahler exemplifies the ideal that
there is no "typical" symphony.  (Mendelssohn and Beethoven also come to
mind in this regard.) Even if one includes "Das Lied" as a symphony, only
five of them include voices, and the "Wunderhorn" symphonies only do so in
one or two movements.  Every one different, every one great (although I
have have liked #7).
