If you've already tried the Kondrashin with the Vienna Philharmonic on
Decca, then I can be of no further help.A propos of Dvorak symphonies, on
Saturday I heard his 7th, as rehearsed by the Munich Philharmonic under
Ivan Fischer. I cannot remember hearing it played better (Fischer asked
for only one replay of a fairly short passage). Another item on the
program, the Opus 53 Violin Concerto, as fiddled by Pamela Frank, was also
impressive. Fischer has a way with the lilt of central European rhythms,
which are a mark of Dvorak's style. And Pamela Frank has a bow and an
instrument which produce color that shines right through an orchestra.
