I think the local public radio stations are trying to Starbuck the
airwaves with All Things Considered, BBC, hourly news breaks, and other
news overload programming.  They believe that information is more valuable
than music.  Good information helps their listeners make money on the stock
market, which in turn allows said listeners to give more money to NPR
stations and buy Lexus cars from the local dealerships that advertise
on the radio stations.
