Robert Peters:

>The operas libretto [Magic Flute] is openly racist and misogynous.

Adjectives such as "racist" and "misogynous" applied to a XVIII century
libretto?...hmmm. According to this, almost all western literature is
misogynous, racist and fascist.

>How do modern productions deal with these tendencies of the libretto?

?Why does a regisseur must "deal with these tendencies"?.The libretto is
perfectly written, and there's nothing spurious in it. Or do you want a
diet, pasteurized, and politically correct version?. This may be good for
those people who don't drink wine, who don't smoke, who don't eat meat, but
not for the people who likes works of art (and all things) as they are.
To "deal with certain tendencies" of a text is often called censorship.
