I want to second the recommendation of Karl Amadeus Hartmann. I like his
earlier symphonies, for which post-Mahlerian is an excellent description,
the best. The later symphonies sometimes get a bit relentlessly fugal for
my taste. The first is my favorite.

I bought the complete Wergo set of symphonies (4 CD's) way back when, which
I think is still available, but these days there are plenty of individual
CD's to choose from.
