Check out Bohm's Phillips set. It's an interesting comparison. It was
recorded in performance, around the same time the Solti Ring was made
with many of the same singers. Bohm's is generally lighter, faster.

Or Karajan. Kind of a competitor to Solti. More chamber like, lighter
voices, sound not nearly as good. Try Bohm first.

A real contrast? Goodall. In English. Very slow. Some very good, but
inconsistent in the case, with an orchestra not on the level of Vienna
or Berlin, and friends. Great sound.

All of these are more or less contemporary with the Solti, kind of.

And don't forget (if you can afford it) the Keilberth that's out on
Testament. Maybe a little stodgy in some of the conducting, but some
very good singing and amazing sound, considering it came out before the
Solti, and very impressive. Like Bohm, it's from Bayreuth.
