Anatomy of a Deficit: Dollars and Sense

At this critical stage of negotiating all its labor contracts, the San
Francisco Opera is telling unions that it must cut back on spending to
fill a $16-million-plus hole, created by a $7 million deficit in Fiscal
Year 2002 and the expectation of a $9 million shortfall in FY 2003 that
has just ended (details of which may not be released for months to come).
